Magdalena's Legacy: Old-World Charm and Grace

Image
Magdalena
In 1920, Peter Rog's grandmother, Magdalena, arrived in Minneapolis and brought many old-world recipes and traditions of hospitality with her from Southern Poland.

Magdalena is fondly remembered by her grandson for her freshly-baked breads, homemade soups, and smothered pork chops. Peter loved the trips to various markets with his grandmother and especially remembers how she would carefully select the best quality produce, breads, meats, and sweets for her family and guests.

Magdalena's home was warmed with the love of family and friends, and her table was never set without an extra plate for the "unseen, but always welcomed Guest." Peter also remembers his grandmother’s table beautifully graced with flowers from her garden as a gift of hospitality to those that would gather around her.

It is in her honor that Peter and Jenny opened Magdalena’s Ice Cream Parlor on April 17, 1991. On October 3, 1991, Peter and Jenny moved to their current location — the town square in Indiana’s first state capital.

Our Mission Statement is simple: "It is our desire to share Magdalena’s hospitality with each of our guest by serving appealing and delicious food by friendly and attentive professionals in a clean and relaxing ambience."

Enjoy your dining experience and remember this thought: "Life is uncertain, so eat dessert first."
