Our History

Peter and Jenny Rog, owners of Magdalena’s Restaurant (established in 1991) expanded their restaurant concept to feature a coffee café in response to meeting the needs of demanding specialty tea and coffee drinkers.  By opening Café on the Square, Peter and Jenny were able to meet this need and provide the community with a unique environment for sharing a cup of conversation.   Café on the Square is a full-service coffee bar with a relaxing atmosphere for you to sit with friends, family and business associates while sipping on your favorite cup of tea or coffee.  Share a cup of conversation while tasting our old world Italian espresso recipes.

Visit Magdalena’s Café on the Square to satisfy your coffee cravings in our coffee café.  Our friendly baristas will serve you freshly ground brewed coffee, espresso, and specialty drinks made from 100% Arabica coffee beans locally roasted for Corydon’s fresh brew.  We also serve high quality specialty teas for your sipping pleasure.  Take your favorite cup to go or stay for awhile and relax in our comfortable coffee café while sipping your favorite indulgence with friends, family & business associates.  Our café menu includes café classics, hot, iced, or frozen, that will satisfy even the most sophisticated palettes. 

Café on the Square delivers a perfectly brewed fresh cup of coffee made from coffee beans roasted locally by Hobknobb Roasting Company in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.  Our beans are delivered several times a week and then ground when you place your order for the freshest taste.

Each day Café on the Square serves Magdalena’s Signature Blend, a secret blend of three coffee beans made especially for Magdalena’s Restaurant & Café on the Square.  We also serve Guatemalan decaf every day.  In addition, we select a variety of world roasts for your pleasure including Columbia, Sumatra, Kenya, Costa Rica, Java, Mokah Java and serve a different variety each day.

Coffee Alternatives

Not a coffee drinker?  Look for our alternatives to coffee.  We serve a variety of specialty teas including orange & spice, green tea, peppermint, French vanilla and other flavors.  The Café also serves hot chocolate, steamers and chai teas for those wanting something a little different. Café on the Square carries a nice selection of thirst quenchers including bottled water, Fuze, Jones Soda and a soda fountain favorite, Italian soda.

Smoothies

Need a cool refreshing alternative?  Try our tantalizing smoothies.  Let us make you a peach, mango, strawberry, banana, raspberry, mixed berry or any fruit combination ice cold smoothie.  Our Corydon Chill is a velvety smooth caramel latté flavored smoothie – add a little whipped cream and need we say more?  You’re in smoothie nirvana.

Espresso & Specialty Drinks

Café on the Square uses espresso beans roasted fresh for the Café by Hobknobb Roasting Company in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.  These beans are also delivered several times a week for fresh espresso drinks made to order.

Our classics include espresso shots, cappuccino, latte, Americano, macchiato, café au lait, café mocha, white mocha, caramel mocha, milky ways, turtle mochas and more.  Basically, we can make any specialty espresso drink your palette desires.  Holiday specials such as our Irish Cream cappuccino, our St. Patty’s white chocolate latte or our red hot cinnamon latte on Valentine’s Day are a must try.  You name it and we’ll make it!

We serve wonderful espresso and specialty drinks at the Café, but often customers aren’t quite sure what it is they want.  We’re here to help you.  Just ask for some help and we’ll guide you in the right direction to satisfy your cravings.  Below are descriptions of some of the drinks we offer, but remember we can make you anything as long as we have the ingredients for what you'd like.

If you’re looking for something to do on a Friday or Saturday night, don’t forget to visit the Café between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m.  Each week we have different music and vocals provided by some of the finest local talent in the area.  We have a wide variety of music styles from jazz to classic rock to pop Christian music.  Have dinner at Magdalena’s Restaurant, and then stroll into the Café for a relaxing or uplifting night of music, song, poetry or comedy.  End your day with a perfectly brewed cappuccino or latte prepared by our talented baristas. 

Other Local Entertainment

Hayswood Theatre is just across the street from the Café.  The theatre presents a variety of plays performed by area actors with professional production for a quality community theatre experience.  Theatre fans can purchase tickets to current productions by calling the Blaine H. Wiseman Visitor Center at 812-738-2138. Visit Hayswood Theatre online for theatre information. See a play and have a latte before calling it a night, or stop by the Café before you go to the theatre.

Corydon Cinemas is located just north of historic downtown Corydon.  They offer first run movies shown on seven screens with state of the art digital sound and stadium seating.   Corydon Cinemas is an independent theatre associated with no national chain.  They provide a clean, family friendly environment with reasonable prices for you to enjoy your movie experience.
